Our Products Are Kits

We have had a couple of questions about our buildings. They are kits and do not come pre-painted.
They are made in a special polyester resin that is extremely durable and easy to paint. Its not like the typical kits made of urethane resin. Many urethane resins can be tricky to paint at times. The details are spin cast metal. We try to keep the part count to a minimum. The Church in the picture has about 14 parts total.
Instructions for all of our kits are available as free downloads here:
The instructions for the new buildings won't be up until we return from Fall in. Hope to see you all there!

Amercian Uncivil War Playtest

This weekend we had a play test "double header" for the American Uncivil War Ruleset which we hope to put out in December to support our New Range. The first scenario had a platoon of Union foragers with a wagon roaming through a small farm settlement down south.

Here is the farm end of the table. The playing area was 4x5 feet.

The second scenario was a troop of Union cavalry desperately searching for a Confederate Powder cache and a dastardly Secessionist spy.

Here is the "Town" end of the table. This play area was 6 x 5 feet.

Here is a view of main street. The Church was occupied by Pastor O'Riley, who commenced ringing the church bell as soon as the Union Forces appeared. This brought the local Confederate reinforcements running to the town to protect their powder.

The Union brought a forage wagon along and unfortunately became more distracted by looting rather than chasing spies or finding the powder.

When a Union patrol moved into the restaurant, they rolled on the loot table and got the dreaded vicious dog result. That occupied them for a full turn and the Union commander actually received a wound from the mangy cur!

The first building the Union searched in the farm scenario brought forth Mrs. Miggins, who was full of Hateful Rage at all things Yankee and walloped a few soldiers with her frying pan before she was subdued.

In this rather poor picture, you may notice the man in top hat standing towards the back. This was Doctor Rice, a non combatant character that had the Influential attribute. After the hub bub with Mrs. Miggins died down, he was able to make a successful Influence roll and kept the band of Yankees from looting Mrs. Miggins house but failed to secure her release. She was escorted back to the wagon as a prisoner.
The third "Confederate" character in the farm scenario was a sharpshooter here seen hiding in a pig sty. He kept waiting for a clear shot on the Union officer but it never came.

We played both games in about 3 hours total. The rules seem to be coming together well enough. This is a game full of characters and attributes and small forces on both sides.

We are looking for people to help us continue play testing the rules, so if you are interested please drop us an email at customerservice@architectsofwar.com.

Antietam

This past Sunday, Barb and I decided to take a day off and enjoy the weather. So where did we go -Antietam Battlefield of course!

This is the Bloody Lane as it appears today:

This is the Bloody Lane the day after the Battle:

I find Antietam, of all the battlegrounds I have visited both in America and in Europe, to certainly have the strongest sense of 'Hallowed Ground" .

This stone out building was there at the time of the Battle, but had a shake roof:

Stone walls- I asked a Park Ranger about these:

We have taken many trips like this over the years, first for just enjoyment, then for Barb's Bunker and now of course Architects of War. We must have 1000 pictures on file from American and some European Battlefields. I even have a few of Hong Kong and the Japanese landing sites there. We use them to try to make our stuff look as "real" as possible. After all, if we are all going to fuss over how many buttons a sack coat has or how many cartridges a German infantry man carries, we DO believe our motto-Its Time to Build Better Battlefields.

Below is proper Snake fencing:

The planks on the barn behind Barb date to about 10 years after the battle. Look how wide they are!

We are doing our best to bring you buildings and terrain kits that are as authentic as we can make them. We enjoy the process and hope you enjoy the result.

Tree Plates

We have done four "woods" plates. They will come individually, as a set of 4, and with or without trees so you can add your own. They are meant to be dense and relatively impassable unless you skirmish through them. We will, of course, provide instructions and some tips on getting the most from the Woodland Scenics trees including increasing their durability and appearance.

Should be for sale by the end of next week on the web site.

An American Uncivil War Special Sneak Peek

It's October 1st and we thought it time to give you a sneak peek at what we are really up to...
We will be launching our first complete range in November and will debut the line or at least a big part of it at Fall In. Now, this is an Architects of War line, and that means it will be complete with figures, buildings, terrain, accessories, and rules.

The range is called An American Uncivil War, and will provide you with a great way to start a new period or add to an exsisting American Civil War collection. It's all about skirmish adventure gaming in the American Civil War...Looting, burning, spies, daring heroes, despicable villains and more.

The pictures above are just a few quick "test shots" we took this afternoon. Please excuse their quality. They will be much better when we "do the real thing". We have our first figure pack produced and here, waiting to be packed, the buildings are well on thier way, and we even ran another playtest of the ruleset tonight.

The whole range is 28mm, matches the Perry Miniatures (my favorite sculptors) perfectly and all the other popular 28mm ACW ranges to boot. The figures and buildings will be rich in character.

Keep checking back for more updates. We are really excited about this range and hope you will be too. We still have several other releases coming this month and will continue to add new items to our terrain line as well.
